Keynote Address:

The State of Resource Sharing Today: from Pain Points Toward Potential

Join MCLS Executive Director Scott Garrison for an interactive discussion of the current and potential future state of library resource sharing. Scott will engage Indiana’s resource sharing community for a look at topics including resource sharing in Indiana and Michigan, current and emerging technology and other developments, current pain points for libraries, and desired future directions.

Breakout Session Descriptions:

  • Talking Books- What are we and how can we help? Abby Chumin from the Indiana Talking Books and Braille library will discuss different methods of delivery for library materials for library users with a print disability.
  • Assessing Library Usage through Ezproxy Data Abby Nafziger, Head of Technical services, Subscriptions, and Systems, Goshen College. Abby will discuss research methodology using years of library authentication data which showed a correlation between student library usage and retention rates.
  • It takes a village: How ILL works with other library units to provide excellent service to all. Holli Moseman and Melissa Gustafson, Indiana State University. ISU ILL works with other library units with the aim of providing better services to ISU patrons and other libraries. ISU ILL partners with Acquisitions (On Demand program), Collection Strategies (Science Direct Mediation & E-licensing), Cataloging (Adding or deleting holdings), Processing (ILL is able to process material if needed for our patrons), and Mending (ILL is able to mend easily mendable items). Melissa Gustafson will expand on the ongoing collaboration between ILL and Collections Strategy including: considerations for ILL in collection contracts and the benefits for Collections strategies personnel gained from partnerships with ILL colleagues.
  • Public and School Partnership: Expanding Services Laura Geesy, ILS and Circulation Manager, Muncie Public Library. Laura will talk about the partnership that the Muncie Public Library and the Muncie Community School formed to create a Union catalog for sharing from the public and school libraries. Discuss how the program started and how it has grown. The partnership has grown to included Inspire Academy and Burris Laboratory School as receiving libraries, and Motive Our Minds as a full sharing partner.  Laura will also discuss pitfalls encountered, as well as the success they have had with the partnership and future plans.
